After finishing my B.A., I pursued photography by using an old, manual Nikon film camera and by processing and printing the resulting black and white images. Before I picked up a camera, I studied old prints that my grandmother made of family and friends in the Blue Ridge Mountains, in the Hill Country of Texas, and of the impoverished life amid the devastating rubble within the US Zone of post-war Germany in the late 1940s and early 1950s. In some ways, I've followed in her footsteps, and have been additionally fortunate to have published in DoubleTake, Sierra, and Mothering magazines and more. I've also provided film stills and behind-the-scenes images for independent film and WebTV projects, and promotional and educational photos for businesses and organizations.
I am based in Portland, Oregon and am available to travel for the right project. Reach me through my not-on-brand Instagram or my more respectable LinkedIn account. Or write me a letter at mike [at] mikebicknell [dot] com.
